- Experts Say Email Will Be Default Communication For Confidential Data By 2009. A survey taken at the Internet Services Providers' Association (ISPA) meeting in London suggests that email will become the preferred medium for confidential communications within the next couple of years, supplanting registered mail and couriers. The survey's results also state that nearly three quarters of industry experts and analysts say the provision of secure, encrypted email services is fundamental for ISPs.
- It's a spam tsunami! Reports about the surge in spam abound. One says that about 85% of all email sent in the last quarter of 2006 was spam, and half of those were phishing attacks. Another report says that image spam represents 56% of all spam sent over the past 6 months. Yet another one says that after a lull in 2005 (there was a lull?), spam skyrocketed in 2006; 63 billion spam messages — that's 10 for everybody on Earth — were supposedly sent in October 2006 alone.
- I had no idea that someone tracked mailing lists in different marketing sectors, but Bill Mclosky writes “We've been monitoring the number of active legitimate email marketing lists, and have been noticing some interesting trends.” Read his article to see what's been going on in the mailing lists for various industries: gambling, travel, apparel, payday loans, debt elimination, food and yes, technology.
